Update on me & info on Glimpses: fruit of the past... hope for the future...

First

Aggravation and frustration!

I hate my uncle's wife and her family!!! Ok I don’t REALLY hate them, but they are not my favorite companions. On one of the few days that I don't HAVE to be up at the crack of dawn to get to school or work, I have to get up early just to run their lazy asses around before I can begin to work on my stuff. That means that I must put them before school, work, and sleep. That is Really MESSED UP! They are just too lazy to be independent and they think that everyone owes them everything. The worst part is that I am not allowed to say anything and I will probably get in trouble just for writing this if my grandparents find out (because it is not polite and it might hurt their feelings)!

OK
*deep breath*

OK, I think that I’m done complaining like a child for now.
Sorry that I have not really been on for a while. I have stopped in for a few minutes here and there. School and work have just been going so fast. It has been a lot of fun but I can’t believe that the semester is more than half over already. I don’t know where the time went.
I absolutely LOVE my studio photography class and the 4x5 camera at school is my new favorite! Photo II is going great. I have been experimenting with some antique cameras that I have to modify in order to use. I have been taking 120 film and re-rolling it onto 620 spools so that it fits in one camera. I am working on finding a way to do the same thing for 616 spools by creating an adapter of some sort to keep the film in place. I also want to find a way to put 35mm film in both of those cameras. Portfolio development is not as difficult as I had expected it to be. The most daunting part for most of the students seems to be writing their artist statement, I feel lucky that I still have what I wrote for the show that I had last year, all I had to do was update that a little and hand it in. Digital fine art is turning out to be the one class that is my nemesis this semester. I am determined to conquer it! I feel like every time I try to do something, it takes at least 10 times longer than it should. There are ideas that I have that I want to use for assignments but I don’t know how to get the computer to do what I want. I know that I need a lot of practice and to just “;play” with photoshop a lot so I can figure it out, but it will take time and I am impatient. Often I find myself thinking that it would be easier to just paint or draw what I want and then either scan or photograph it (I am determined not to allow myself do this).

I AM GOING TO CONQUER DIGITAL FINE ART I

The current show in the gallery at school is:
“Glimpses: fruit of the past……… hope for the future” by Phylis Barfoot.
Phylis is an alumni of Sussex County Community College and an adjunct professor there as well (I have takes one of her classes and I loved it she is amazing, & once years ago she and I were both students in the same class). The show is comprised of various works created using different mediums yet is still cohesive. There are beautiful flowing painted silk scarves, felted creations, acrylic paintings, watercolors, and 3D sculptures. This show opened Friday, October 30, 2009 at 6:20pm and will be up until Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 9:00pm. The Show ends with a Silent Auction Dec. 12th from 6-9pm including the raffle of an art piece. Preview of auction work will be during gallery hours Fri, Dec. 11th.
* Copied directly from the artist’s Facebook Event Page…. “This is a Gallery exhibit culminating with a silent auction of donated art. The auction proceeds will go to “Wine To Water” which is a non-profit organization providing clean drinking water and sustainability education to populations in need. President Doc Hendley is one of 10 nominees for CNN's "Hero of the Year". Vote for him and read more about the organizations efforts at [link].

Art for auction will be posted for preview as they are donated so stay posted! A silent auction will be held on Sat., Dec12th. For more information contact Phylis Barfoot on facebook.” *

You can find more about this on Facebook Causes by searching for “Created for a Cause art exhibit and auction to benefit "Wine to Water"’ or “Created for a Cause”.

I am planning to donate at least 2 items for the auction and I know that the Fine Arts Student League A.K.A. the Art Club, is also going to support this cause and try to get some donations. I truly hope that it is a great success!
This show took several days to hang. It was a lot of work and also a lot of fun. I really enjoyed helping with this.

Oh well, I am feeling a lot better now but I have to get some more homework done and then try to get a couple hours of sleep before it is time to get up in 5 hours.
…………..Um……… I think that I will work on the homework before work tomorrow, I need some sleep and I didn’t realize how soon I had to get up. Still it will be more than my normal 2-4 hours of sleep. No class in January….. I can’t wait, but I won’t know what to do with all my time. Lol

I will try to be on more often and upload more stuff.

Take care.

Ps. if you would like to vote for Doc, you can do so by going to www .cnn. com/SPECIALS/cnn.heroes/vote/ [link] or www. winetowater. org [link]

I am a Lifelong resident of Sussex County and currently a student at Sussex County Community College where I am studying Studio Fine Arts and Fine Art Photography. Although my photography is more literal, I prefer to work completely abstract while painting. I love to experiment with every medium as well as with combining them.

I often describe what I do when creating as playing. This is really a very over simplified description. It is only playing in as much as when a young child is playing he is really learning through trial and error, watching and imitating others, experimenting with his own ideas, and expanding on already known abilities, all while finding great enjoyment in the process. I believe that every experience no matter how trivial it might seem has an influence in a person’s life, even if it is not readily apparent. I try to pay attention to this and draw inspiration from it. Sometimes I only become aware of this in my own life when I see how my work has changed or is changing.

My work was included in the 2008 Sussex County Community College Student Fine Art Show and has been included in private collections of some Sussex County Community College faculty, as well as the private collections of family, and friends. I designed the squadron patch for the former Sussex Skylands Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol. My work was also featured in my high school yearbook.
